Learn how to use Livetail.

The Livetail is a tool that allows you to view and filter logs in real-time. The page features a bar chart that displays log ingestion activity for the last 30 minutes, a search bar for filtering logs, and a datepicker to filter logs by datetime range.

Live Mode

Livetail provides a Live Mode feature that allows you to view logs in real-time as they are being ingested:

• Click the “Enter Live Mode” button to switch to Live Mode
• In Live Mode, the logs will automatically update as new entries are received
• The “Enter Live Mode” button will change to “Exit Live Mode” while in Live Mode
• Clicking “Exit Live Mode” will return you to the standard Livetail view

Limitations in Live Mode

While in Live Mode, certain features of Livetail are limited:

• You cannot load older logs beyond the current real-time view
• The search bar can only be used for free text search on the message key (see Search for more details)
• The datetime range selector and other filtering options are disabled

Live Mode is designed for monitoring logs as they happen in real-time, providing a focused view of the most recent log activity.

Use Live Mode when you need to keep an eye on incoming logs and quickly identify any issues or patterns as they occur. Switch back to the standard Livetail view when you need access to the full range of filtering and searching capabilities.
